Song Saa Private Island sits in Cambodia’s Koh Rong Archipelago, which is made up of mostly uninhabited islands – oases of virgin rainforests, coral reefs and pure white beaches. Song Saa is Cambodia’s first private island resort, and aims to set a high standard of luxury, environmental sustainability and community wellbeing though its conservation and sustainable livelihoods programs. While the island feels secluded, it is only 35 to 40 minutes away from Sihanoukville on the resort’s luxurious speedboat. Song Saa Private Island provides luxury transfers in our fleet of BMW 5 Series from the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville. Journey time is approximately 3.5 hours.
The resort spans two discreet islands called Koh Ouen and Koh Bong, which are referred to collectively as ‘Song Saa’ – Khmer for The Sweethearts. The islands are connected by a footbridge over a private marine reserve established to safeguard the islands’ reefs and marine life, including dugongs, turtles, seahorses and tropical fish.
The resort features 27 one and two bedroom jungle, ocean-view and over-water villas, which are designed around the theme of a Cambodian fishing village, but with all the luxuries and modern conveniences you would expect of a world-class resort. The use of natural finishes throughout helps the resort blend seamlessly into its surrounds and wherever possible recycled and sustainable materials have been used.
Song Saa Private Island has a simple ‘one price, per villa’ pricing policy. This means once guests step foot on Song Saa Private Island, they are free to indulge in everything the resort and its surrounds have to offer, knowing that all the resort’s features are included in the price. The only exceptions to this are motorised water sports and treatments at the resort’s spa.
The resort’s spa – the Song Saa Sanctuary - reflects the essence of the local environment, and uses locally sourced herbs and plants, as well as the islands’sands and iron-rich stones, in bespoke treatments designed by renowned spa specialists Ila.
At the heart of Song Saa Private Island is the Vista Restaurant and Bar - an over-water lounge and restaurant staffed by world-class chefs. It offers 360-degree ocean views to take full advantage of stunning sunsets and vivid starry nights. Executive chef Neil Wager has developed a unique style of food that draws its inspiration directly from the surrounding environment. It makes use of sustainably sourced local ingredients, celebrating the natural gifts of the islands in a delicate fusion of traditional Khmer and western cuisines.
The Driftwood Bar is situated on the sand, and makes a perfect casual dining location offering tapas and gourmet pizzas from the wood fired oven and BBQ. This is the perfect location for a chilled glass of wine or a cocktail as the sun sets into the sea. The resort also offers unique ‘location dining’ experiences, tailored to guests and designed to match the charms of each location on the island.
Song Saa Private Island offers a comprehensive list of wines, champagnes, beers, and spirits, as well as a world-class cocktail list.
The protection of the natural environment and the support of local communities is central to Song Saa’s principle of ‘luxury that treads lightly’. The resort has a team of six conservation staff, and has developed partnerships with local villages to ensure the islands never lose the natural beauty that make them so special.
